The latest Bosch Performance Line CX motor has introduced significant updates in response to rider feedback, particularly addressing concerns about noise from the previous generation. Now quieter, lighter, and more efficient, the Gen 5 motor enhances the riding experience across various terrains. Here’s a closer look at the key changes.
Reduced Noise for a Quieter Ride
One of the standout improvements in the Gen 5 motor is its significant noise reduction. Riders of the Gen 4 motor frequently noted that motor noise could detract from the overall ride experience, especially on smoother, quieter roads. Bosch has directly addressed this concern by engineering the Gen 5 motor to run much more quietly.
Lighter Weight
The motor is now 100g lighter. While this is a small saving, any weight reduction is a welcome improvement for ebikes and gives a slightly improved power to weight ratio, particularly for riders looking for more agility on trails or during commutes.
Advanced Sensors for Intuitive Power Delivery
The Gen 5 motor features improved sensors, including inertia, cadence, and torque sensors, which enable the motor to respond more accurately to changes in terrain and rider input. This means smoother transitions between different support levels, more responsive acceleration, and a more natural feel when riding. Whether tackling a steep incline or cruising downhill, the motor automatically adjusts to the conditions, giving riders more control and a seamless experience.
Powerful Torque and Peak Power
The motor retains its 85Nm of torque, providing powerful acceleration and support for even the steepest climbs. The motor delivers up to 340% assistance – enough to conquer difficult terrain with ease. The motor’s 600W peak power (with a legal 250W continuous rating) is ample for pretty much anything you can throw at it. These torque and peak powers numbers are not an improvement, the change is in how the power is delivered to give a better and more responsive ride experience.
